What is the SEM 39387 Self Leveling Seam Sealer used for?

The SEM 39387 Self Leveling Seam Sealer is designed primarily for sealing joints and seams in automotive applications. It offers excellent adhesion and is particularly useful for sealing gaps in body seams and areas vulnerable to moisture. This product facilitates a smooth finish that’s essential for both aesthetic and functional purposes, ensuring long-lasting results. Whether you are restoring a classic car or working on a new vehicle, applying this sealant enhances durability against weather elements and prevents rust formation.

How do I apply the SEM 39387 Self Leveling Seam Sealer?

To apply SEM 39387, ensure the surface is clean and dry before starting. Use a caulking gun to dispense the sealer into the desired seam or crack. The self-leveling property allows it to settle evenly, resulting in a smooth finish. You can use a spatula or your finger to shape it as needed. This method is ideal for both vertical and horizontal applications. For best results, work in a well-ventilated area and avoid applying the sealant during extreme temperature conditions.

Is the SEM 39387 seam sealer compatible with all automotive paints?

Yes, the SEM 39387 Self Leveling Seam Sealer is compatible with most automotive paints. This versatility ensures that you can complete your sealing application without the worry of paint adhesion issues afterwards. It’s crucial, however, to allow the sealer to cure fully before applying any paint over it. This product is designed for seamless integration into your automotive projects, essentially offering an unobtrusive finish that blends well with various paint systems.

Can the SEM 39387 Self Leveling Seam Sealer be used on other materials besides metal?

While it is primarily formulated for metal surfaces typically found in vehicles, the SEM 39387 can also be used on plastics and some rubber materials. Its excellent adhesion properties allow it to bond well without compromising flexibility. This makes it suitable for use in automotive bodyworks, including fender wells and below the vehicle where various materials intersect. Just ensure the surfaces are clean for optimal adhesion.

What are the storage conditions for SEM 39387 Self Leveling Seam Sealer?

To maintain the quality of SEM 39387, it is crucial to store it in a cool, dry place and away from direct sunlight. Excessive heat can negatively affect its performance, while moisture can lead to premature curing. For best results, keep the cap tightly sealed when not in use. Proper storage will ensure the sealer remains effective and ready for your automotive projects whenever you need it.

How long does it take for the SEM 39387 Self Leveling Seam Sealer to cure?

The SEM 39387 Self Leveling Seam Sealer typically requires approximately 24 hours to fully cure, depending on environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity. During this time, it remains workable, allowing for adjustments if necessary. Understanding the curing time is important when scheduling your projects, as applying paint too soon can lead to adhesion problems and affect the overall finish of your work.

Can I use SEM 39387 in exterior applications?

Yes, SEM 39387 is suitable for exterior applications as it is designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions. Its resistance to moisture, temperature fluctuations, and UV rays ensures that it retains its effectiveness when exposed to the elements. This makes it an excellent choice for sealing body seams in vehicles frequently exposed to outdoor conditions, providing both protection and longevity.

What color is the SEM 39387 Self Leveling Seam Sealer?

The SEM 39387 Self Leveling Seam Sealer comes in a black color, which helps it blend well with most automotive surfaces. This discrete coloring ensures that the sealed areas do not draw unnecessary attention, enhancing the overall appearance of your automotive work. The black finish is ideal for creating a seamless look on body joints and seams, crucial for achieving a professional-grade finish.

Is SEM 39387 safe to use?

SEM 39387 is generally safe to use when handled appropriately. It is recommended to work in a well-ventilated area to minimize inhalation of any fumes. Always wear gloves to prevent skin contact, and consider goggles to protect your eyes. SEM Sealants Editorial Review

The SEM 39387 Self Leveling Seam Sealer is a high-quality seam sealer that comes with two mixing tips. Customers who have used this product say that it works great, but it's best to warm it up before applying it. It eventually self-levels, but using a heat gun helps level it out perfectly. One customer used it for van raingutter restoration and found it great for such projects. The sealer leveled out perfectly and seems like it will last forever, with easy clean up using mineral spirits. Despite the high price, it's worth it according to another customer. Overall, the product has received positive feedback, with customers loving it for restoration projects.
